Nicola and George, Lee Carter and Nancy Carter
Nice to see original cast characters back tonight. Specifically, Lee and Nancy Carter, brother and sister duo, offspring of Mick and Linda Carter. Not so great to see Nancy knocked up, and find out that her brother is the father.
This was tonight's "cliffhanger." Weak and oh so predictable. Who pitched this idea around the writer's table?
"Hey guys! I've got this week's cliffhanger! Nancy pregnant...by her own brother!" When an average ape could figure out they are not in a passionate relationship, but Nancy is obviously a surrogate. It's just a cheap staged line. Almost as cheap as the chintzy sets that are now prevalent throughout the show. What happened to the gritty reality of the 80s? Even the 90s were more believable, but now the walls match the color of Elaine and Linda's bright pink and blue clothes, like a homemade set, not a house, or a B&B, but just a garish mess. And yes, it matters, because disbelief gets harder and harder to suspend.
Finally, has anyone noticed how Nicola, the new "serial killer" on the Square has murdered her father, and George, her partner, has murdered his? Yet neither partner know of each others patricide. As you do, in the East End.
